II German in Taiwan - Kenting II

After Tainan, rabbit Wei finally brought lion Xu to Kentin, where he's long for so long...
We were lucky to be able to wear T-shirt and short pants, while it raided cats and dogs in Taipei...

"How could there be this huge difference of temperature?!"

Since Tainan, rabbit Wei already felt like being back to summer in Taiwan...
Lion Xu: looking at the winter coats in his suitcase... "I can't believe that we were wearing that few days ago..."
Rabbit Wei: "Well, as they taught us in the school, Taiwan hat tropical and subtropical climate, at least we know it's not a lie..."
Lion Xu: "I can finale understand, why you said that people cannot survive without air condition in Taiwan..."

"Hold tight!"

阿旭獅慶幸自己在台北因為天氣不佳,所以不需要搭上小緯兔的機車;

You must ride scooter once you're in Taiwan!
Lion Xu felt so lucky to be able to avoid scooter in Taipei, since it was raining;
however, there was no excuse in Kenting!
Lion Xu: "Baby, be careful! Just be careful!" Holding tight to rabbit Wei with one hand, and to the grip with another...
Rabbit Wei: "I know... Helmet?..."
Lion Xu: Checking it two more times. "Good! No problem! Don't drive too fast!"
Rabbit Wei: "Yes sir..."
Lion Xu: "It's the very first time in my life-time to ride with a scooter!"
Rabbit Wei: Riding with 50km/h... "I can totally tell that from your body language, haha!"

"European! Don't forget the sun cream!"

Rabbit Wei used this chance pretty well, since he had the control of the scooter; therefore, we visited a lot of places next to the area Kenting.
From DaWan, ChuangFanShi, to ELuanBi and the Southernmost Tip of Taiwan, where rabbit Wei was falsely recognized as a tour guide from Malaysia... Rabbit Wei ist a DOC Taipei-Rabbit! Further from LongPan and FongChueiSha to ChuHuo and HengChun, and since rabbit Wei was a super scooter-driver, we even headed to BaiSha and SheDing, before we headed back to hotel for nap before dinner...
While we were enjoying the rips for dinner...
Lion Xu: "Aua!"
Rabbit Wei: "WHAT?!"
Lion Xu: "It hurts..." touching his head...
Rabbit Wei: staring at the red lion head. "We forgot the sun cream..."
Back to hotel, the injured parts were even warmer than heat pads... I guess our biggest souvenirs are a small black rabbit and a spicy lion head...

Comments from rabbit:

Rabbit's high school graduate trip was also heading to Kenting, winter coats in Taipei, then shorts in Kenting. I think it's a bless for Taiwan to have such a big difference between the North and the South, because you will always have a place to go, once you feel like living in a refrigerator or in an oven...

Taiwan is famous for scooter-riding. In the rush hour, it's quite scary from all the bridges in Taipei... Of course, I believe that people in the city are already aware of the consequence... Rabbit's dad and rabbit's brother are those kinds of people, who only take bus once their scooter are broken... Actually, I think people who live in a city, where's so convenient with public transportation, only need their own scooters and cars in some specific occasions. On the other hand, is it not wonderful to be taken to the destination with air condition?

European despise those asian tourists, who use sun cream or sun umbrella. About this one, rabbit Wei can still kind of agree in Europe, but definitely not in Taiwan!
With different latitude, one of my professors, who had studied in Germany, said: "They don't know that the sun in Taiwan bites!"
I am so welcoming all those young men, who are lying in Englischer Garten and laughing the neighbors, who're using sun cream, to Taiwan, and please, stay naked and hold on your "embracing the sun" attitude, lying on the campus of NCCU for 30 minutes... (Schweinhaxe is so popular right now in Asia, you might be able to provide us some testing-samples...)

"Final comments from lion Xu!!!"

1. Taiwanese dishes are much healthier than germans, more vegetables and less oil, and easier to get seafoods! (Rabbit's dad refused to have such healthy dinner, since he can't not be happy without meats...)

2. Taiwanese do keep their homes clean. People aren't allowed to entry with their shoes. But why the bathroom isn't kept dry? (Rabbit Wei had never seen a dry bathroom in Taiwan... Only if there's shower curtain like in hotel, otherwise, it's just taking a shower in fast and then heading to bed, haha!)

Taipei is that a city which never sleeps. There're always activities and shops, which are 24hr open! (It's totally what Germany needs to learn from Asia! 7-11 is a wonderful thing! After 5 years in Europe, it's hard to tell yourself to sleep when you're actually hungry in the midnight...)

4. Lion Xu: "Service staffs in Taiwan are extremely nice, even they don't speak good English, they even use calculator to show me the price!" (In this point, rabbit would attack Germany, really hard! The service quality in Germany SUCKS! Telefone services always want to hang you up; post-carrier throw your package to the balcony of your neighbor; all the delays of undergrounds and trains; the staffs in stores won't speak English with you, they even try to push you away, if you cannot speak good German! Who said that Europe is the capital of humanities?! How could you talk about humanity, if you cannot even be nice?! Huuuuu... Calm down...)

5. Lion Xu: "There's a conclusion after this whole journey!"
Rabbit Wei: "What is it?!"
Lion Xu: "Taiwanese people have three hobbies: smartphones, eating and queue!"
Rabbit Wei: "What are you talking about..."
Lion Xu: "Oh! There's one more!" "Hating Chinese people!"

Actually, there're also a lot of German, who stick with their smartphones everywhere, but what we are not able to deny is, Asian are always better than European in 3C area. If you have lived in Germany, you know how bad their internet and cell-signal quality is... A 20 minutes video for 10 hours?! You cannot even pay more to get more, because they are not even able to do that!
And queueing? A lot of people say that German are so orderly; however, they don't even queue while they take the underground!
Let's be honest, no one loves to queue, but we Taiwanese at least stay orderly and have patience, knowing that we will get what we want eventually. Isn't that a virtue, which German can learn from us?
Well, let's interpret "hating Chinese" as that we Taiwanese have enough self conscience... After these five years, unfortunately, there are so few chinese people, with whom I feel comfortable to be friend. After all, all of those political announcements and uneducated behaviors in our land, no one can blame us not to like them!
Oh, for the last point, no explanation is needed, eating's the most important thing to survive, so, just eat!

Empathy ist Faith

June 12th 2016, Pulse Club, a LGBT club in Orlando, Florida, was attacked by an anti-LGBT killer. More than 50 people were injured and 50 souls have gone, forever...

The trigger of this tragedy was just because that the killer couldn't get used to the scene when two mens kissed each other. According to the interview of killer's father, the killer once saw two mens kissing each other on the street and angrily said: "Look at them, how dare they do such thing in front of my kid!"
But, beside of showing love, what did these two mens do?

In these days, there were demonstrations all around the world, except of showing supports to the victims in Orlando and their families, it's also showing our Disapproval against violence and our determination for LGBT human rights!
As one of the biggest cities in Germany, Munich doesn't forget.
Responding to the call from CSD München, we gathered on June 13th at 19:30 in front of the consulate of U.S., showing our empathy and providing our spiritual support.
Deputy of the representative, chiefs of many Munich LGBT groups and some politicians, who support LGBT human rights, were there as well.

How ignorant should a heart be, to not to accept different kinds of loves?
And how intolerant should a heart be, to be able to disdain innocent lives like this?
Empathy, could be a kind of Faith; and this tiny little faith is just like these candles and flowers in front of the gate of the U.S. consulate. It's not only our condolence, but also our trust for humanity, to believe that empathy can create a no-violence, no-discrimination, better world.

P.S.
Today I randomly read a different kind of voice on Facebook.
"Come on! There are so many people dying in middle east and Africa everyday! Could you stop keeping writing about Orlando?"
Regardless of the reasons of selective of social media, the value of lives cannot be measured by numbers. Because each life is priceless!
We cannot accuse european don't care about Africa and middle east, just because they did more for U.S. in these days. (I don't even need to mention, if we don't care, why should EU even discuss about refugee issue?) The heartbreaking tragedy in Africa and middle east also needs locals to react, to response. Before you protested that european are taking sides with U.S., shouldn't you actually be sharing these information, which you think that were ignored, with your relatives and friends on Facebook? After all, we should be condemning the offenders, not the mourners.

I German in Taiwan - Taichung and Tainan I

After a week in the North with rabbit's parents, lion Xu and rabbit Wei took the train, heading to the central and southern Taiwan!

"How could you people build so many skyscrapers, where there're often earthquakes?!"

The second day in Taichung, we visited the 921 earthquake memorial park, when we passed by the new cultural park Quang Fu.
Lion Xu: "Being here makes people more respectful the the mother of nature." Lion Xu said so, looking at the destroyed playground of the elementary school...
Rabbit Wei: "You got the point... Fortunately, it happened at midnight, otherwise there might be more dead."
Lion Xu: "But, think about it, Taiwan locates at the Pacific seismic belt, how could those people be dared to build so many skyscrapers here?"
Rabbit Wei: "Well, first of all, we need more places to live... But I do think that they do take specific measures to avoid the damage."
Lion Xu: "Thank God, there's no earthquake in Germany, otherwise I would be terrified to death!"

"No wonder it's all about Zen and meditation!"

In the three days in Tainan, we had visited many temples and historical architectures, such as Confucius's Temple, Fort Proventia, Anping Old Fort, Anping Tree House, Eternal Golden Castle etc., but Lion Xu got the biggest impression from the Temple of Koxinga!
Lion Xu: "Taiwanese people do take the ancestors quite serious."
Rabbit Wei: "How come?"
Lion Xu: "Well, there're so many temples for just Koxinga!"
Rabbit Wei: "After all, Tainan is where his ruling started. In that period, they did build those temple by themselves."
Lion Xu: "Also, on the other hand," pointing to the garten with chinese style of stones and ponds, "comparing to our large Englischer Garten, it does provide a different kind of silence!"
Rabbit Wei: "Just be careful not falling asleep during the meditation, haha!"

"How can they take my money without my presence?!"

Before heading to Kending, there's a short episode in front of the reception...
Staff: "Good morning, here's the amount we have charged on your credit card, please check and sign here."
Lion Xu: "Ah? When did they charge it?"
(Because rabbit Wei should actually pay for the accommodation in Tainan, but the booking information was addressed by lion XU.)
Rabbit Wei: "They probably did that this morning to save time..."
Lion Xu: "This shouldn't happen in Europe! They must wait for the customers to be here and give them the card!"

Comments from rabbit:

When the 921 happened, rabbit Wei was only 12 years old and slept still so deeply with rabbit's brother! Only until the aftershocks, we did realized the brutality the earthquakes showed this time...
We already learn in elementary school that Taiwan locates at the Pacific seismic belt and scientists cannot predict it like typhoon. Therefore, there are necessary procedures, like the depth of the foundation  or absorbers, such as the damper in Taipei 101, whose standard is much higher than in Germany.
In fact, rabbit Wei isn't a scientist, but according to my experience of accommodation in Germany, bad soundproof (which might lead to a too thin wall or weak materials of the wall?) and the preference of wood materials, I guess, if 921 had happened in Germany, most of building would have been blowed up like dominos...

The Englischer Garten in Munich crossed six underground stations, it's even larger than the central park in New York. The trees are tall as forest, the river is deep enough to let everyone jump in to swim. But either winter or summer, there's no such silence with asian style, which is so deep that you can actually listen to your own mind, your own heart. Maybe, it's not all about the size for a park?

High efficiency is the highest policy of taiwanese service, maybe, it's why the staff charge the amount already in the morning, so that the tourists don't need to wait once they are hurry to catch the bus of the train; however, it's kind of disrespectful for european to accept that. Maybe rabbit Wei should ask for some friends, who work in hotel business, for consult.

An issue of preference or a discrimination? Thoughts after gay scenes

As the host of the biggest asian LGBT parade, Taiwan has more activists, who give their best efforts to pursue a better future for LGBT's interests.
Here's the link. For whom might be interested to learn more details:
http://tapcpr.org

Back to the main point.
Recently I read an article, which discusses about the tiny groups in gay community.
The title is "No fats, no sissy, no asian", it's funny to say so, but I did read this kind of slogan for a thousand times, even in different languages, on all of those dating-websites.
(Of course, I don't use them anymore since I have lion Xu!)
In the article, the author mentioned that the ideal type for gay men is: White, worked out, big and strong (but not too much), straight-acting... YES! YOU READ IT RIGHT! You gonna be "straight" enough to be gay!

Some of his thoughts do match to mine.
As one of the minor groups of the society (After all, it's the fact), we have tried to fight for more rights and tolerance; however, when we are actually enjoying some of our victories, we are even building some small groups to push some others out! Isn't that a double standard? Isn't "a standard body" actually breaking our "tolerant" appeal?

Of course, there are voices against.
"I don't like fats, I don't like sissy, I don't like asians, am I not allowed to do that?"
Exactly, with whom you wanna go in bed, with whom you wanna go for the aisle, it's 100% personal preference.
Could we actually accuse them for discrimination because of that?

I am not fat, I am not sissy, but I am Taiwanese, an asian, it's what we can't change. Moreover, I have never thought of changing that!
As an asian gay man in Europe, at the beginning of trying to know new friends, of course I did get some despising feedbacks, of course I did being treated like a second class.
Even when I just started to date lion Xu, someone just said to him: "Oh? You finally book a boyfriend online?"

To sum up, these people, who try to build small groups by writing slogans (which could be almost discriminations) on their dating-profiles, could be just trying to avoid that those "fats", "sissies" and "asian" would "probably" fall in love with them. Should I be grateful that they didn't bring us on the street to walk and humiliate?
I also have my preference, I did encounter some asian boys, who were desperately looking for some white guys to marry them, to feed them.
If there's discrimination, there's a reason. Instead of finding out who left this kind of bad impression, I think what I can actually do is trying to dispel the preconceptions.
As I mentioned before, there's no solution for this debate, a "no" or a "no entry" does not make a discrimination. But the people who write these kind of hurtful words should try to learn, to understand the real value of  multiculturalism and tolerance .

In the end, I still find the "straight-acting" the most ridiculous part.
I would really like to ask the guy who wrote this: "If you see a man and that thing down there gets reaction, how could you possibly "act straight"?"
